Centro de Formação Artística
In 2022, the Art Training Centre (ATC) celebrated its 10th anniversary. Having emerged from a partnership between EIRA and Produções Real Pelágio, ATC is a multidisciplinary project based at Teatro da Voz, with artistic/pedagogic coordination by Sílvia Real and Simone Longo de Andrade. The number of children, educators, teachers, and artists involved over the years in the ATC’s dynamics and activities aimed at the local school communities can hardly be assessed.

Since 2017, weekly classes of artistic education and creative thinking have been included in the primary education curriculum, namely dedicated to: dance-theatre, sound, visual arts, philosophy, and human rights. The project entails a set of diverse proposals that have benefited children attending three schools: Escola da Graça – A Voz do Operário, Escola Básica do Castelo, and Escola Básica de Santa Clara.
The pre-school community at A Voz do Operário has also been targeted in various initiatives of artistic enjoyment promoted by the ATC.
Alongside school-based training, during extracurricular hours, Teatro da Voz has for several year been hosting regular classes dedicated to various artistic languages, from dance to percussion, aimed at the local community.
In addition to activities for younger children in schools and at Teatro da Voz, the ATC offers human rights training for teachers.
Based on the understanding of research communities’ primary value for education, the ATC keeps pursuing the goal on which it was founded: to create conditions for dialogue through the arts within the local community, and to foster spaces for such dialogue between children, families, educators, teachers, and artists.
