domicílios de Domicília
a partir de Casio Tone, 1997

As the song by Burt Bacharach and Hal David goes, “a house is not a home when there’s no one there.” The same can be said about a scenery without its characters.

This realization is especially emphasized when it comes to an exhibition showing the now-empty places inhabited by Ms. Domicília, the solitary character in the Casio Tone, Subtone and Tritone trilogy, created by Sérgio Pelágio and Sílvia Real.

Given a name itself evoking the notion of home, Domicília only lived in those enclosed places where she encountered a series of strange and disturbing situations. Now stripped of their uses, objects and spaces remain awaiting her imminent arrival.

But in the same way that any artifact or artistic object gains a second life once placed inside a museum, this exhibition is also aimed at celebrating Ms. Domicília by showing the scenarios and objects that accompanied her throughout her career, and which now, serving as memory aids, will guide us in revisiting those shows.
