Dobra
Inflexões de um plano sobre um corpo
a project by Mariana Ramos
The fold, as Deleuze states, is a form of action; it is the action that creates and invents its own thought – though this is not a voluntary and autonomous process, as in the folds generated by the forces of physics in the sea, whose waves are folds that arise from a collective process, with a line of action and in coherence with the processes inherent to nature.

Dobra – inflexões de um plano sobre um corpo (Fold – inflections of a plane on a body [which in Portuguese can also read as inflections of a plan for a body]) is a video installation composed of 4 projections and a sound piece. It draws on the classic object-body relationship, the interconnections between sculpture and performance, where touch and feeling are the key words to de/construct the dialogue between the two artistic areas, the encounter between the cold, hard, breakable object of sculpture and the warm, soft, flexible human body. The plaster forms of Mariana Ramos, created to be touched, worn, hung, transported, or confused with a body which is not a body but a sculpture instead, provoke the movement of 4 dancers, Sílvia Real, Valentina Parravicini, Pedro Ramos and Sandra Rosado, creating 4 narratives that confront each other through the projected image and are unified by Sérgio Pelágio’s sound.
