Lost ride
by Sílvia Real & Francisco Camacho
Francisco Camacho and Sílvia Real have already performed in each other’s work. She invited him to dance alongside her in Bute-bute, last presented in the tribute to Mónica Lapa (2002), and performed in his LIVE/EVIL (2005). That former show boosted the complicity that grew between them and would continue so. Used to working as both director/choreographer and performer, Sílvia Real planned to be directed by someone again. She invited Francisco Camacho, given his interest in directing performers, particularly his approach to movement.
Within the solo format that both have favoured, they challenge themselves to work upon the differences that they identify in each other’s creations. They are joined by Sérgio Pelágio, Carlota Lagido and Frank Laubenheimer. The show stems from these creators’ encounter and the articulation of their distinct artistic practices.
Dedicated to Mónica Lapa. *

In Lost Ride, the figures created by Sílvia Real confront the physical and psychic space that constrains them. That space is an artificial and constructed one, reinforcing the idea of fabrication. This is a world where a supposed "natural order of things" is no longer possible. The organic and the inorganic hybridize, devour each other, swallow each other. Lost Ride dwells in the tension, the illusion of dichotomies, and offers the possibility of cannibalism. This show’s proposal implies the unveiling of contradictory structures and a close look into psychic lives. As well as into their own absence and conditions of possibility.
The figurations on stage translate ways of being which are progressively incompatible and precarious in their enunciation. As if the figurations’ definition necessarily implied the incorporation of the very context that makes the definition possible. More than a way of being, it is about inhabiting.
This inhabiting translates into disharmony, implying the disparity and paradox between feeling and expressing. The successive scenes reveal different layers, both emotional and physical, that are concealed and uncovered. The ruptures, the outburst, the breaking of surfaces reinforce the end’s anguish. Or does anguish inhabit us from the very beginning? Even more so, are we the anguish?
